“When we planned to move across the country as part of a military Permanent Change of Station, NBKC wasn’t the first bank we looked to for our mortgage needs. (Spoiler Alert! It’s the only mortgage bank we’ll ever use going forward). We actually began our journey with highly advertised mortgage banks - one that rhymes with pocket, one that means “united by treaty”, and one that even catered to veterans and perhaps even had “veteran” in their name. Instant regrets. The high hidden fees, the lack of understanding for our unique situation, the slowness, the frustrating moments and too-busy-for-me types. Total ick the whole time. We fired those big name super advertised banks. My wife and I diligently researched highest customer satisfaction VA loan banks in America. We stumbled upon National Bank of Kansas City, and we’re glad we did. Immediately impressed! This felt like family. And mind you, we were Texans moving to West Virginia - nothing whatsoever to do with Kansas/Missouri, but they had us covered on all fronts. I must say, we’d honestly be doing a disservice to you as the reader if we didn’t discuss The GOAT of bankers, Herb Mason. And props to NBKC for employing badasses of this caliber. Even our own WV real estate agent liked working with him so much that she (a 25-year real estate veteran) raved about Herb at the closing. So why? Let me explain. First off, he was confident and reassuring. Working with Herb was like mortgage therapy. And this guy was FAST. Seriously. If you call and he’s busy, no worries, he’s calling you back in 15 minutes or less. Be ready. Sometimes I sent paperwork late on a Friday evening figuring we’d touch base on Monday. Nope. Herb was still working. I uttered “holy $4!#” to myself on numerous occasions. And get this: not only was NBKC offering the most competitive rates on the market, but Herb understood every nuance of our situation. He helped us lock in at the best time saving us 3/4 points. He helped us tweak our money down so that it saved us an additional $5 grand on closing costs. He set us up for our super low cost refinance in the future, because the market rates aren’t actually the best right now. The list goes on. Herb cared and took the time to dive deeply into our situation. Thank you NBKC for properly taking care of my family and our troops with what I believe is the best VA loan on the market.
