Advice for New Home Buyers

Get pre-approved early; understand your budget; optimize your credit scores; save for more than just the down payment; choose the right loan type; don’t max out your budget; avoid major financial changes; be patient; ask questions. Find a loan officer who is willing to take the time to help you understand all these elements, along with educating you on first-time homebuyer programs.

What is your motto or personal mantra?

I strive to guide clients toward financial decisions that serve their best interests, with integrity, transparency, and care.

What is your favorite sports team?

Kansas City Chiefs

What is something that people would be surprised if they knew about you?

I took a two-year sabbatical from the mortgage industry and spent a significant amount of time volunteering at a local cat rescue, along with trapping feral cats in the area to spay and neuter.

What’s your alma mater?

University of Kansas

What is on your bucket list?

Take a culinary tour or cooking class in Mexico with local chefs to learn traditional techniques and regional dishes.

What aspect of your job are you most passionate about?

Educating clients on how to be well informed about the differences between lenders. Unfortunately, there are lenders out there that are not transparent about fees and rates and still use unethical practices to get clients on the hook. Depending on the specifics of the loan, I may not always be able to offer the best deal possible, but if I can make sure clients understand why going with one lender makes more sense than another, even if I don’t get the deal, it is still a win-win. A relationship of any kind is strongest when trust is part of the relationship’s foundation.

Where did you grow up?

Kansas City

What are some of your hobbies?

Gym, fantasy football, online strategy multiplayer games, assisting with nephew’s multiple sports teams, wine club

Before working at nbkc, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

I bar tended part-time for about 9 months after graduating from college at one of the more exclusive country clubs in Kansas City. It was interesting, and a great learning experience, to have several real conversations with some of the most successful business owners, salespeople, and C-level executives in the area.
